Veteran-owned coffee: what it means here
"Veteran-owned" is a meaningful consumer signal — and an easy phrase to overclaim. This page states exactly what our badge does and does not represent, then points to the 7 directory records that currently qualify.
Our definition (plain language)
On this site, Veteran-Owned means:
the roaster's own website (or a page clearly published by that business) states that the
company is veteran-owned, and we store a source_url pointing at
that evidence. The badge on a profile links out so you can read the claim in context.
What this is not
- Not a registry certification check. We do not automatically verify SDVOSB, VOSB, CVE, NaVOBA, or state vendor lists as part of the default curation pass. If we have not checked a registry, we will not imply that we have.
- Not a paid ranking. Roasters cannot buy a badge or a higher placement.
- Not inferred from charity or hiring language. "We hire veterans" or "we donate to veteran causes" is not the same as "veteran-owned."
How we check
During verification we look for an explicit ownership statement, capture the URL, and set
veteran_owned.value only when that evidence exists. Ambiguous copy
